EVERYTHING you've been told about Crested Gecko Genetics in the last decade is INCORRECT!
Here is why.
In recent years, the theory that 'Phantom' acts as a suppressor for White and Orange patterns has gained popularity. But despite clear evidence to the contrary, a small group has pushed this idea so heavily that it now dominates search results.
Sure, the suppression model seems to explain simple pairings, but it fails under scientific rigor. It can't explain why certain ba colors produce Phantoms 100% of the time, it ignores heterozygous effects, and it relies on obscure 'rules' to excus its obvious flaws.
When you look at the genetics of a Phantom × Non-Phantom pairing, the reality is far simpler: pair a Phantom to any Non-Phantom, and 100% of the offspring will either visually display Phantom or carry the trait into the next generation. The relationship between pattern and Phantom is driven by a single gene.
Meanwhile, Harlequin displays the classic hallmark of quantitative genetics-it responds to selective breeding precisely because it's governed by DNA.
The logical conclusion? Phantom isn't a suppressor-it's the wild type.
Once you realize this, base colors can finally be understood, tracked, and the best part is that it can be proven by anyone! No need to argue about it... simply test it yourself.
Recognizing Phantom for what it really is unlocks the true foundation of Crested Gecko genetics-and suddenly, everything else makes sense.
